Transformation

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” Romans 12:2 (ESV)

How often do we pattern our outer self to be like the world? How often do we “put on” what we know the world wants to see? Have you ever played the part? Do we all wear masks?

Jesus had some strong words for the religious leaders in regard to only focusing on their outward self.

“Woe to you , you white washed tombs…” You look freshly painted and clean on the outside but your insides smell of death. Jesus wants to transform us on the inside not just paint the barn!!

This word “transformed” is both imperative and passive. God is saying: I am commanding you to allow ME to transform you. Let me in!! Let me into to those dark personal places. As I shine my light on them, together we will begin the work of transformation!

Just know my friends, true transformation means struggle. It’s ok to struggle! It’s ok to not understand! It’s ok to question! It’s ok to fail! Perfection is an unrealistic goal!!

Most often it’s during times of failure, pain, turmoil, and loss that God allows the hard pack of our lives to be disturbed. When the masks come off, we no longer care what people think or what they want to see. That ship has sailed, but instead we seek for a deeper understanding of God. When we truly seek Him, we will find Him but don’t be surprised if He doesn’t look the way you thought. It will be during those times that you realize your soil was disturbed so a new seed could be planted and the roots could grow deep.

Maybe today instead of asking, “God get me out of this!” we should be asking “God, what can I get out of this!!”
